"Over 25 weeks waiting for a simple operation, and still waiting"

About: The Great Western Hospital

(as the patient),

Hi all,

I have referred to see an surgeon (OS) at the end of August last year (2009) and well, I had my pre operative assessment in November 2009 and am still waiting, I was transferred to another hospital on the grounds that my original hospital told me I would have my operation in the first week in March 2010 but its 55 minutes away. The PCT rang me on the 22nd week of waiting and said if I would like to transfer to another hospital which is 15 minutes away and I said I would only transfer if I had my surgery at the same time (1st week in March), they agreed that I will have my surgery then in the first week in March.

I have since found out that my operation MIGHT be in April 2010 but they cannot be sure, I was told by one member of the NHS that my original hospital has problems with their waiting lists and this person from the NHS also agreed that I was mislead into transferring to another hospital just to free up a problem waiting list and a struggling hospital. Obviously I am going through a complaints procedure at the moment but am not happy that I have had to re-arrange my work to suite this as I was told March will be my operation and now it might be April but might be longer, I have a holiday in May and if my surgery is in April my holiday will be difficult. Also it’s me who is in pain, even though the hospital I have transferred to is excellent I still would have not transferred if I had known I will have to wait longer.

The pain is terrible....

I am gutted to think that I have been used like a pawn to free up another hospitals waiting list. Just think the waiting time is officially 18 weeks, if my operation is in April that over 33 weeks of waiting.

I think I have been patient enough to be honest and I feel I have been mislead and used (they are also one of the words from one NHS personnel).
