I was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson white syndrome and was admitted to undergo ablation. I attended the pre assessment clinic and was very happy with what I was told about the surgery and about the care I would receive. On admission none of the things discussed at the pre clinic took place, I was totally ignored by all the theatre staff during the surgery and the nurse looking after me spent the whole of the time I was in theatre on a computer and never once asked me if I was ok. As I take a high dose of pain relief regularly I was told the staff would be aware of this so would give me a higher dose of pain relief but this didn't happen. During the whole procedure I felt very alone and very scared very isolated. After the procedure I spent the night on the ward and was discharged the next day being told I would have a follow-up appt in approx 6 months. I never received any appts and despite ringing the hospital and leaving voice mail messages I have never heard from glenfield hospital. I do not know if the operation was successful or not but due to the terrible experience I would never undergo the procedure again even if it was life threatening, it has left me mentally scarred.
