"Waiting time is unacceptable"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I was referred to the Gastro clinic last year. I waited 30 weeks, from May 2015 to November 2015 until I was seen by a Specialist. I was told that he suspected that I may have gallstones. I was sent for tests which showed no gallstones, all the while I was in agony. I then had a follow up appt, in May 2016. This appt was changed by the clinic, sited 'unforeseen circumstances '. I was given a new appt for July. I returned to my GP, and explained that I was in severe pain that I had no quality of life and that the pain was getting worse. The GP wrote a letter to the clinic asking them to see me as a matter of urgency. Two weeks later, I received a standard issue letter from the hospital, saying that the department was busy, that there could be a wait of 26-28 weeks! Confused, I went back to my GP and informed them of the letter and was told that I should here back with an amended appt as I was already in the system. And I did receive an appt. For November! ! ! I called the GP secretary and asked for advice. They told me to contact the hospital and make an official complaint which I did. So all told, they are asking me to wait a year to have a follow up appt.
