I had an operation here Friday for 2 hernias.
I was seen by the consultant and anesthetist before and felt happy and assured.
When I got to the prep room I soon found out the nurse hadn't administered my pain killer before surgery.
I wasn't too concerned with this assuming I would be given this under anesthetic.
When I came. Round I was in lots of pain. I was given pain relief and taken back to the ward.
I was in great pain still and asked for painkillers again, the nurse said they would get me some and asked if I had paracetamol at home which I said No. Their reply was why not. To be honest o hadn't thought about this and also somebody would get me some if I needed it but also paracetamol were not strong enough for this pain anyway.
Then nurse came back a while later and gave me medication in a pot with a hole in and told me to use the other side. This shocked me and my husband as we are aware the easiness of spreading MRSA and other germs. I took the medication as I was desperate. I didn't see that nurse again.
The other nurse who was looking after me popped their head round the door to ask how I was and that was the last I saw them. I was given tea and toast and taken to the toilet. At 615 I heard a trolley and talking,
I hadn't seen anyone for over an hour so thought it was dinner time. I asked of i could have something to eat and was told there was not hot meals they could make me a sandwich.
I said I was only asking as I was hungry and thought it was dinner time for patients I didn't mind getting my own from the canteen as my husband would get it. They gave me a ham sandwich.
After another hour my husband asked the nurse if I could get dressed it was then we realised they had forgotten I was there.
The nurse came in said they would discharge me straight away got my pain relief from the pharmacy anf gavee some dressings and a stapler to take and said I could go to my nurse a week later. I didn't have a clue I was completely stapled.
Wasn't given any advice for after care and the dressings were all too small.
I have been in agony since I got home with no idea what I can and can't do. I know I was an NHS patient but I am wondering is this the care you get if you pay or was it treated unfairly as I was NHS
