"Dignified re-assuring fast care for..."

About: Birmingham Midland Eye Centre (Bmec)

I attended the Eye A & E clinic today due to issues with intermittent blurred vision due to diabetes and possibly due to my eating disorder problems.

The receptionist was friendly and professional and explained that there was a strike which could affect time to be seen. I appreciated being told this so that I was aware.

I then saw a triarge nurse who was very approachable. They again explained the waiting time but also encouraged me to get checked out.

After a short while, I was then seen by the nurse for routine observations and a vision test which was delivered in a professional and caring manner,

After this I then saw the doctor who answered my questions and put me at ease. They did a Retinopathy check due to my diabetes and arranged for this to be done there and then.

The doctor gave me a copy of the letter to give to my doctor there and then.

I couldn't see the letter clearly due to the effects of the dye and therefore asked the sister to read the basic content to me, they did so and explained the next steps in my care carefully.

I had delayed having this important test due to anxieties about having the dye. Although it isn't very pleasant to have the temporary effects it causes, it was ok and I would recommend you to have it done if you're diabetic without delay rather than wait until you have a problem with your vision as I did today.

Despite a busy day which was no doubt difficult due to strike action, I was unaware of any delay as a patient.

As a professional in social care, I would recommend this service without hesitation due to today's experience.

Excellent care delivered with dignity and respect.

It was a much appreciated visit.

Thank you.

Lin
