This weekend my father took himself off to minor injuries with a bad back ache and kidney pain, he apparently was also finding it difficult to take a "complete" breath. He had not informed my mother during the week that he was in pain (she was away on a business trip) and he had neglected to do anything about it. On her return she sent him to get checked over and told him off. Upon his arrival at the unit he spoke to the receptionist and the nurse who declined to see him as she explained it was a minor injuries unit , and to go home and call 111 to be reviewed by an oncall gp. So, he went home and did as he was told, only to be sent back to minor injuries after a call back three and a half hours later. Following his examination by a very sheepish looking nurse, they then announced they wanted to blue light him to ED in Cambridge, as they were concerned he may be having a PE. Thankfully he wasn't having a PE or a heart attack but I'm annoyed that 1. He was dismissed so quickly and I'm informed bluntly 2. The time factor- as with a PE a few minutes could be a difference between life and death. 3. Just because your busy and stressed doesn't excuse treating someone like this. I am aware he was very silly and drove himself to ED refusing the ambulance, but by this point he didn't want to stay in minor injuries any longer. But had he been seen and dealt with better in the beginning he may have listened more closely to the staff involved in his care and my mum.

To assist us with your concern, would you be able to pass me your Father's personal details:

Full name, Date of birth, Address, telephone number. GP surgery and the day your father attended the unit.

When I have this information, I will pass your message onto the manager that looks after the PoW MiU and ask them to look into the points you have raised.
