"Praise to the A&E staff, particularly the..."

My son badly burned his back due to a kitchen accident. The paramedics arrived in under 5 minutes from my 999 call and treated him promptly and calmly, they stayed with him until he was handed over to the hospital A&E staff. Lewisham is densly populated and the A&E is always very busy, but staff were patient, clear, positive and helpful. One particular ambulance driver, who was attending another patient, passed by my son on the stretcher. They saw my son was lying on his front, and gave him a folded blanket to put under his chest to make him more comfortable. At the same time the paramedic was reassuring the children of their own patient who were clearly worried about their parent. They did not have to do that for my son, it wasn't even their patient. It shows clearly the dedication, attention and compassion ambulance staff can have. These people work really long shifts and are constantly attending extreme situations. I have the highest opinion of them.

The medical care was very good from all staff and the communication on what to do and where to go next was clear. He has recovered well. Thank you to all of Lewisham staff that helped my son on that day and that changed his dressing the following weeks, it was very reassuring after the shock we both had.
