"The staff on the children's ward were fantastic"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Emergency Medicine Dr Gray's Hospital / Paediatric Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

My son had an operation at Raigmore in Inverness and during his recovery at home he became dehydrated and it was clear he was in a lot of pain, I took him up to Dr Grays A&E, we were seen within 10 minutes and admitted onto the children's ward within 30 mins.

The staff on the children's ward were fantastic, they were so kind and caring and quickly got my son comfortable on some pain relief and helped me encourage him to drink. Sadly he was too sore to drink so ended up on an IV drip, they were so good my son didn't even cry when they put the cannula even though he is only 2! They made us so comfortable and checked on him every 20 mins in the night, nothing was too much trouble. My son also has several food and medicinal allergies and everything they gave him was checked with me first.

A stay in hospital can be so stressful and upsetting especially when children are involved but honestly every member of staff during my sons treatment was fantastic.

Dear At 84

Many, many thanks for taking the time to post your feedback on Patient Opinion. Being a mum myself I understand how very busy you must be with a two year old so we are especially grateful to you for sharing your story. I really hope that your son is doing well after his operation and the blip in his recovery and I am very, very gladdened to hear how well Dr Gray’s hospital did in helping you both through that difficult time. We aim to deliver high standards of care at all times for all our patients by working well in our teams and putting patients’ needs first. It seems we achieved our aims for you.

I will ensure that staff in ward 2 and the managers for that service are made aware of your kind words.

Kindest regards,
