"No option to reflect my gender identity"

About: Kirklees Sexual Health / Kirklees Sexual Health Outreach

(as the patient),

Came to do a screening. While filling out the form I found I was unable to fill in the gender as I don't identify with the norm genders of male or female. I feel uncomfortable that I'm pretty much forced to identify with a genders that doesn't fit me as a person. I feel that it needs to be changed to what is your preferred gender with a line underneath for the person to state as there is so many genders and just having an option says other will not cover this and will end up making people feel alienated or not "Normal".

Hello HarleyAxelQuinn95 and thank you so much for posting your comments – it’s feedback like yours that is crucial to our service and making sure that we meet the needs of all our clients.

You are absolutely right about the very limited options and non-inclusive language used on the pathology request forms. We recently did some consultation work with the young LGBTQ group who were brilliant and have helped us to redesign our forms for the C-Card scheme, which now have a much more inclusive choice for expressing gender on and this is what we would like to see happening for the pathology forms.

We have been in contact with the suppliers of the forms this morning and we have taken on board your suggestions and have asked them to investigate changing the wording to ‘Preferred Gender’ and then options for ‘Male, Female, Non-Binary’

If you have any other suggestions or comments we would love to hear from you. Our office number is 01484 481030 or you can contact us on chlamydia.screening@locala.org.uk

Once again thank you so much for feedback

Update posted by HarleyAxelQuinn95 (the patient)

I think there shouldn't be any options at all as there is still Agender, gender-fluid.. It should just be a blank line for the person the write down. I think this way is better for the person filling out the forms as there's not groups
