"Why not a local anaesthetic instead of a general at Bolton?"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I visited Royal Bolton Hospital Urology department for a vasectomy (General). I really appreciated that I was treated a person and not just a vasectomy case.

I would have liked better information up front. I needed to know what items to bring (I needed supplies) and how much to shave (I was told one thing and then was completely shaved).

I would like to thank all in the Urology department.

The only one thing I would change would be to have a local instead of a general, as it was a good week to recover. Where everyone I spoke to, who'd had a local were all back at work the next day.

No one I spoke to had had a general.

Thank you for your comments - we are pleased that you were happy with the way you were treated. We will review the information that we give to patients such as yourself to make sure it is more relevant. With regard to the sort of anaesthetic for this procedure, we do offer a choice of local or general anaesthetic and patients should discuss this with their surgeon and anaesthetist. There are, however, some cases where anatomy may make local anaesthetic technically difficult or impossible.
