"Nothing!"

About: Tameside General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Nothing!

What could be improved

A huge amount! Reception staff were rude and un helpful. The A+E waiting area was filthy despite there being very few people there. Once we were taken to be treated we were left in a filthy room, with hours old blood on the floor and sharps left on counters. Also had the last patients chart left on full display, and general hospital rubbish (gloves, tissues, empty tablet packaging) left across the floor and next to the bin. Nurses were rude and never explained the situation. Once they decided the action to take, we were left another hour, When they then decided it was incorrect.

The hospital needs to clean up its act, and inform staff of the guidelines they need to be taking, I also dont think a lesson in general manner would hurt.

Anything else?

We will not be setting foot in Tameside hospital again! We were badly treated, noticed others being just as badly treated. We were judged on image rather than severity of condition. The cleanlyness of the hospital was dire, and severly worrying. We will be going to Oldham for our emergancy medical needs in the future, this way we may actually get the correct treatment!

Thank you for posting these comments. I am sorry that you had a negative experience at the hospital. I am not sure when you attended, but would like to assure you that the A&E department recently underwent an independent external inspection and was given a clean bill of health.

There is no excuse for rudeness, and I apologise for the attitudes displayed by some members of staff. These points will be raised with the matron for the A&E department so that action can be taken.

Kind regards

Philip Dylak

Director of Nursing

Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
