My husband Roger, was admitted to A&E on Sunday 17/04/16 at 4.45 am in acute pain, he has got liver and bowel cancer and is under one of the consultants in the St Luke's Cancer Centre.
I want to give feedback on the absolute satisfaction I have for the care my husband received from the A&E doctors and nurses on the night shift and day shift (especially the sisters and doctor on day shift) for chasing up the surgeons and oncologists which eventually resulted in a diagnosis of a perforated bowel and he had an emergency operation at 2.30 pm Sunday afternoon.
I especially want to be able to give thanks to the oncologist who came to see my husband and organised an urgent CT scan which got the diagnosis but would like it noted that it was them organising this immediately that I think saved my husband's life.
I want to thank the Consultant Surgeon, Registrar and another doctor for going through with my husband and I what was going to happen and for the care and concern they showed. I was informed that there was a 20% chance that my husband would not make it through. Once the operation was over the Registrar Surgeon phoned me and let me know what had happened and I saw them again in intensive care when I visited my husband.
I also want to thank the Consultant Oncologist and Registrar who also came to see my husband and explained everything to me and said we have to let the surgeons do their job now.
Not only did everyone show so much care and concern for my husband but also for me by explaining everything to me as well, making me cups of tea and giving me hugs, it was one of the most traumatic days of our life and all the doctors and nurses I saw helped me and my husband through this.
I have often watched Casualty and Holby City on the television when emergencies are happening and thought it doesn't happen like that in real life, well it does and I cannot thank everyone enough for saving my husband's life. Tania
