We had a very ill resident who didn't want to go to hospital despite the fact that if he didn't get help he could die. It was a difficult situation because he didn't want to go but there were issues with his capacity to make this decision.
The crew were compassionate and supportive and they were there for ages making sure that he got the help he needed and eventually got him in the ambulance. They were also receptive to the (not nursing) staff and explained everything well so we could understand.
They had to liaise with doctors as well as ourselves and bring in another paramedic to get to a decision. This all took time but we never felt like we were a burden, thanks
