"Problems with home care"

About: Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who wanted to remain anonymous. We do not have their contact details. They said…

Father died late last year and was in his late 90's. We had Social Services input from Jan 15. He had carers coming in twice a day for 20 minutes each visit. It wasn’t good – problems included:

• Carers not speaking his language and therefore not able to communicate with my father.

• Always different carers.

• Came at different times – so to get him washed & dressed it could be any time between 7. 30 and 9. 30 – he would get worked up and confused waiting for them.

• Carers never spent the full 20 minutes there. He could only have a wash as he couldn’t get in and out of the bath and the waiting time for a walk-in shower was 2 years!
