"Lack of beds on psychiatric wards in Nottingham"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient) Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust

(as a friend),

My ex partner and friend who lives in Nottingham was sectioned in Sheffield and has now been moved to Cygnet Hospital Wyke in Bradford. I believe this is because of a lack of psychiatric beds in Nottingham.

It doesn't seem acceptable to be on a ward in Bradford when my friend lives in Nottingham.

The thing that I thought was good was that while my friend was on the ward in Sheffield was that he had free access to a safe outside space.

The other thing that happened that isn't great is that when I went to visit him in at Nether Edge in Sheffield we sat down together and wrote a letter that had been requested by his CPN in Nottingham giving him permission to deal with his benefits. He handed this letter to a member of staff to post. His CPN has not received the letter.

Sorry to hear your friend has been unwell and has had to move to an alternative hospital for treatment.

AMH are aware of the bed shortage and acknowledge this is distressing for the patients, family and friends.

We are trying to manage the demand for inpatient treatment but at times to ensure patients do receive a service to keep them safe we unfortunately have to request support from other providers.

We endeavour to support the patients to recover and have contact from AMH’s CPN’s and our bed management team to ensure a speedy discharge or transfers as quickly as possible to Nottinghamshire area.

Please can I ask that you contact me so I can support you and your friend personally in this situation and attempt to resolve some anxieties you have. My contact details are ….
