"Eye Clinic - does not seem to work for the patient"

I have an annual, sometimes 6 monthly eye check at the Glaucoma clinic.
This check no longer involves any doctors at all and no doctor sees the test results while the out patient is in the hospital.
I had a number of questions relating to post op care and some pain & discomfort which could not be answered by the nurse.
I was told i could not see a doctor but they went away to ask the question for me.
Having got the question wrong, they went away again to ask.
The answer to the question about a permanent stitch perhaps coming away in my eye and causing some discomfort met with the answer to monitor pressure?
I was told that the alternative was to ask my GP to refer me to the normal eye clinic.
In terms of time, it is 2 - 3 weeks to get into see any doctor in my practice and 3 to 4 weeks if I wish to see a specific one.
Then a further ? months to get another appointment with the eye clinic.
This new system may work for the hospital but it adds a burden on the general NHS and does not work for the patient if no doctor even sees the results until days later.
