"Outpatients"

About: Rochdale Infirmary

After visiting outpatients department I was appalled at their level of hygiene.

In the waiting area there is a large poster advocating hygiene .

When I was called in to see the doctor he was using his keyboard and looking through my notes,

I was asked to remove my dressings ( I had a felon infection in thumb). The end of my thumb has. A open wound .

The doctor proceeded to squeeze my thumb and rub the top of it .

He then started again using the computer and then again examined my thumb.

At no point did this doctor wash his hands!

How many germs are on a keyboard? In fact I don't even recall seeing a sink in the room.

Surely in this day and age this is bad practice !

I am sorry that during your visit to our outpatient department you observed poor practice in relation to hand hygiene. We expect all our teams to ensure they comply with all aspects of hand hygiene to reduce the risk of infection. I have asked Emily Hoyle Senior directorate manager orthopaedics to discuss your concerns at her next consultant meeting . Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
