About: Raigmore Hospital

(as a carer),

When my husband died in Raigmore Hospital Inverness l informed staff he held a donor card. This was 1st March 2010.

They requested his corneas which were duly removed.

l was told at that time l would be informed if they had been transplanted or used for reseach.

l have heard nothing since. It would have meant so much to me to think my husband might have helped someone to see again.

This is not a formal complaint l am just registering my disappointment.

Dear Margo Fox

I can fully understand your disappointment. At such a difficult time of course it would meant a lot. I am so sorry that we have not been able to confirm with you how your husband's corneas were used

I have shared your posting with the committee who oversee Organ Donation to find out what the process was in 2010 for informing people and what the process is now. It is simply not acceptable for us not to let you know when we undertook to do so. What I don't know is what the period of time organs maybe stored so I have asked colleagues the question and I will update PO.
