"Maternity and community midwifery"

About: Hillingdon Hospital

Every time I have been to the antenatal clinic it is filthy and have always been seen late. I appreciate the healthcare professionals have to manage emergencies first, all I request is you let your patients know rather than just keep them waiting.

This is my first baby and if it wasn't for the internet I would have no idea what to expect. The midwives don't tell you anything and just want you in and out and and give you no information and or support with writing a birth plan, what and how this will be used, what the signs of labour are, when th call the maternity unit. They don't let you know you have a choice regarding labour, home birth, birth pool etc.

The midwife I saw today told me I had to dispose of my urine sample myself and to reuse this again up to 3 times as they are running out!

I really hope that when the time comes for delivery the staff are much more responsive!

As the Antenatal Manager I would firstly like to apologise and to inform you of the changes and procedures that we have made. We have a daily cleaning rota and the midwife in charge is responsible for ensuring the area is clean and tidy.

With regard to delays, we now have a white board that is updated with appointment times and delays to keep our patients informed.

In reply to birth preference and planning labour, all midwives do endeavour to make ever patient individual and ensure all their care needs are met and are fully informed on all aspects of care and choice.

I will ensure that all the midwives are spoken to regarding the importance of ensuring this happens.

Finally, urine bottles should not be re-used and I will speak to all the midwives to ensure this does not happen again.

Kelly Culbert, Antenatal Clinic Manager
