"great care before the birth, but not after"

My partner had to go into hospital earlier than expected, to give birth to our child. The care on the antenatal ward was brilliant, caring staff who took time to discuss issues and concerns and were very approachable. The contrast though could not have been greater on the post-natal ward. To be fair, it appeared to be more a staffing issue, i.e. lack of staff, but it felt like staff were never available, or you had to repeatedly ask for help. For example, it took five times of asking and over an hour an a half before somebody brought her some pain relief.
