The nurse asked me to sit down on an ordinary plastic chair which I did and was asked about my problem, I explained I had back pain for 10 days and this was the first time I could manage to come to A&E because I could not straighten my back and struggled to get out of the chair without help.
I was then asked in a very strong and disrespectful manner why I had not seen my GP and I explained that my GP with respect thought there was anything wrong two years ago when I had no use in my left leg after a short walk, that was a slipped disc, the nurse lifted their hands shrugged their shoulders in a 'so what' manner, they then said they won't just give you an xray, so I said how can they see anything without one.
At this point I told her I was going to leave and may see my doctor, their attitude changed at this point and they told me to sit in the waiting room till someone could see me, I struggled to get out of the chair because I couldn't straighten up and was asked are you ok love, I replied I'm ok, I went out and phoned my daughter to pick me up and explained to the receptionist why I was leaving, I am absolutely disgusted with my treatment, I was made to feel I was trying it on, well I am retired so no need to bunk off work and when I was working I hardly missed a day, my back is improving but I still have trouble with spasms when getting out of my chair and straightening up.
I lost a lot of Faith in the Gwent after this episode, like others I have paid my way over the years of working for a living, that nurse had no right to judge that I am a time wasting layabout when they don't even know me, because that's how they made me feel, hospital staff have a duty of care to patients and patients should give them the respect they deserve, in this case I think the nurse was out of order, I hope later they realized this and hopefully they will learn by it.
