"not fit for purpose"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (London)

always feel like i need a decontamination shower after i leave here.

have had the misfortune of visting the endocrine clinic for 3 years as my medical history does not fit their textbook of symptoms & cures, i am still at square 1 with my hyperthyroidism putting me a huge risk of a thyroid storm (which in half of cases is fatal) from their inability to make a decision & treat the patient & getting told different things by different people.

have now been referred to a 3rd diff hospital & 4th diff consultant! if i succumb to a thyroid storm i will be holding QE & the endocrine staff fully repsonsible.

during this had to have regular blood tests to monitor my hormones, "oh it only takes 15 mins" said 3 of the consultants, shortest wait time was an hour longest was 4 hours! far too many people, not enough seats, always baking hot in there, plenty of health tourists though!

staff do not care this hospital is not fit for purpose, PALS is of no help either, still waiting for treatment nearly 4 years after being diagnosed.

Please see the following responses from Endocrinology, Phlebotomy and PALS:

Mrs Miller Interim Head of Nursing for Long-Term Conditions and Cancer has responded to your comments on behalf of the Endocrinology team. The team are sorry to hear of your poor experiences at the Hospital, we work hard to provide a high standard of care to all our patients and we are very sorry this was not your experience. Your Consultant has provided a detailed response to your concerns which we would very much like to share with you personally. If you would be willing to contact Mrs Miller via PALS on 020 8836 4592 we can arrange for this.

The Phlebotomy Clinic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital has recruited 5 more part time phlebotomists, which has reduced the waiting times considerably, and also bring in phlebotomy staff from other areas to help if the waiting times go beyond I hour.

The department has air conditioning and a water butt for patients. We hope that you feel assured that the appropriate steps have been taken to ensure that your experience will not be repeated.

However, if you feel that we have failed to address any points or if you have any further questions, please contact Mrs Plummer, at kerry.plummer@nhs.net

On behalf of PALS:

I am sorry that you are dissatisfied with your treatment within the Endocrine Clinic. We value feedback and in this instance it would be useful to hear your experience so that we can reflect it back to the team to consider what can be done to improve your treatment and care and ultimately improve the service. If you would like to discuss this further please contact Mr Terry Joe, Complaints Manager, during office hours Monday to Friday on 020 8836 5868.
