"Problems with new admissions unit in Rotherham"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I went to Rotherham New Admissions Unit to have a bursa fitted to my hip. I had had a hip operation a while ago and i have been having a lot of discomfort. I was told to arrive at 7.00am. This was at the beginning of february, just after the unit had been opened, so I expected the care to be really excellent, but, in my opinion the care I received was terrible.

I sat along with many other patients in this waiting area until 2.00pm with no food or drink and in a very uncomfortable position. AT least if I had been taken onto a ward to wait I could have slept or lied down to rest my hip. This was totally not acceptable and many patients were kept waiting. I got onto a ward at 2.00pm, had my operation soon afterwards. The care on the wad was good. Is this new admissions centre going to make things better for the patient or worse?

We would however very much like to discuss your concerns with you in more detail and if you would be happy to do this please contact a member of the Patient Services Team at Rotherham General Hospital on 01709 304461.
