"Discharged"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

My mum was admitted to the pain clinic with chronic back pain. She was seen by her first consultant who assured her that she would be treated with every possible treatment that was a available to her and that she would never be written off (discharged without any pain management or a happy conclusion). Within the past 3 years she has been passed from consultant to consultant who all tell her different things. The final consultant who we saw today wrote her off and told her that there was nothing we could further do where as in previous consultations she's been told there are more ways of solving her problem. The consultant left her with no hope and further more left an unstable patient physically and mentally destroyed. As her daughter I refuse to leave it at that. I refuse to watch my mum struggle to stand and do simple things a 44 year old should be able to do.

We are sorry that your mother has had an unsatisfactory outcome to her hospital experience and treatment, and apologise for the distress that this has caused both her and you. The matron would be happy to meet with your mother to discuss her care and answer any clinical questions - if you could arrange a meeting via our Patient Relations Team - contact 0118 322 8338 or email talktous@royalberkshire.nhs.uk
