"Only one GP"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as the patient),

I became ill and went to local centre in Aberdeen when I was told that there was only one gp working that evening and they were in the car visiting patients, it was only nurses in the local centre.

How can a city as big as Aberdeen only have one gp working, this is not good.

The nurse said that integral boards now worked the rota and this was new. I am very unhappy that I had to wait for a long time and told there was no gp because he was busy visiting patients. I can not see how this is safe and how the trust can be happy this is happening.

Dear isla

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. I am very sorry that you had such a long wait to see a GP. I see from your story that the experience took place "out of hours" when your own GP practice would have been closed. There are various mechanisms for accessing healthcare out of hours and our leaflet "Know who to turn to" provides information on this.

Please follow this link for further information if you require it:

I would be happy to look into the specifics of your story if you would like me to. Please contact me by email at loldroyd@nhs.net or call me on 01343 567900

I can understand that you must have been very anxious and why you would question the amount of GP cover. Hopefully we can provide you with some more detailed feedback following contact with us.

Kind regards
