"Terrible considering I pay NI"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

After a fall today my GP advised I visit the walk in at the QE. After waiting more than 3 hours I went through and the nurse asked if I would prefer to see a female consultant due to it being a chest injury. I confirmed I would. The nurse went away and came back to tell me they didn't have a female consultant available for hours and the best they could do was a female nurse. I agreed although I knew at some point I would need to see a consultant. I was called in to see the nurse and before they even did anything the nurse told me that the consultant they spoke to would not treat me today, they would only examine me. I was furious that before even looking at me they had decided not to treat me! After I was examined by the nurse they went away for 10 minutes to speak to the consultant then came back. The nurse said the consultant will allow a referral to a different department but the nurse said this could take a number of weeks. I was left with little choice as the consultant that didn't even see me had decided not to treat me! The nurse said if I get worse before I actually get to see someone on the other area then I need to go back to A&E! Just to add that I'm 3 months pregnant and you would think they would give more care but clearly not. Disgusting service!!! This is not the first time I have experienced shocking service from the QE but I hope it's the last.
