Appointment running late - even first thing in morning ! Took my young daughter to fracture clinic following a fall last week ! She had been looked after so well at another hospital by lively staff who did everything to make it a friendly and less scary experience . Buck land you are just on the conveyor belt ! So off we Trot to plaster room to wait for an assessment . The lovely plaster room staff had to go and remind doctor twice .
Doctor came and recommended a full plaster and no weight on it for four weeks . My concern was for school - so I asked if she could return and got a completely non committal answer !
Once seen and plastered ( this part very efficient) we came out and had received no advice on how to book follow on appointments ! So I asked a nurse who sent me to main reception . By the time I reached the front of a very long queue I explained . Oh you should have a slip of paper you will have to go back and get one from doctor .
Well that's just great with an incapacitated seven year old . However we went back got the paper which they had forgotten to give me and returned to reception !
Another long wait in the expanding queue and back to the receptionist . Right four weeks time appointment will be 23rd May . Now even my small brain can work out that's more than four weeks ! I enquired how many weeks that was and the member of staff said we have a bank holiday you know that's our next appointment ! So I asked if we could be seen at deal - they don't have clinics at Deal ( well they do according to the website! )
I eventually lost all patience and stated that it's not acceptable at which point the receptionist got me an appointment at QEQM for 9th May . However I have got home now and that's three weeks despite the receptionist counting the calendar three times ! - for gods sake !
What I want to know is why are apptmoints elsewhere not offered routinely when none are available
What are the medical drawbacks to a plaster being in too long in a child eg leg atrophy muscle wastage .
Are there fracture clinics held in deal and if so why was I told they are not !
Would never recommend this shambolic place . Such a contrast to the amazing service we received last week in Deal . Very disappointing.
"New hospital but awful service !"
