My mother-in-law’s appointment at the clinic was very good, very good indeed. Previously she was seen at the Princess Plain Clinic but some confusion or misunderstanding left her feeing reluctant to go back. The Bladder and Bowel Service were very accommodating and arranged an appointment at Addington Road.
One of the nurses was Mary, she was very thorough and during her chat with my mother-in-law picked up a couple of small but significant issues which she has undertaken to be looked into further and the necessary support put in place. For example, my mother-in-law mentioned she had fallen in the previous week and ended up in casualty. Mary said she would refer this to the falls team to carry out a home assessment, have a key lock fitted so that, in the event of another fall, the paramedics could help without the need to break down the door. This was done in such a way that my mother-in-law accepted it needed to be done whereas she was previously resistant to the idea.
Mary also realised that my mother-in-law had a loop fitted to manage a prolapsed womb, this should have been changed some time ago but had been missed. This too will be addressed.
I must say all the nurses were lovely and clearly made my mother-in-law feel comfortable and at ease. She is happy to go back for her next appointment, this is important in a person with vascular dementia whose attitude to an appointment can set the tone and affect everyone involved.
"Very good appointment"
