"Post natal - Triage care"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Booked in to be induced! Was not induced till the next day late afternoon as no beds ob delivery ward!!

Particularly two midwifes were very rude. I had been sick that was just left, asked for pain killers i was ignored, i was rudely spoken too, i was belittled, spoken down too.

Even after the pessary was in for 36 hours they were still telling me delivery ward was busy!!!

Staff need to be closely monitored and more beds needed in delivery ward!!!

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your visit to our Maternity Unit. We aim to offer the highest standards of care and it is very disappointing to hear that you feel our midwives fell so short of this aim. Your experience is not one we would want or expect for our mums-to-be.

There is never an excuse for rude or offhand behaviour and so we can only apologise that this was your experience. We have passed your comments onto the matron and lead midwives who will share your feedback and concerns with the team so that improvement can be made.

Because of the nature of the service, bed availability in the Maternity Unit is largely unpredictable, as women can arrive in various stages of spontaneous (natural) labour at any time. This means that, as long as baby is safe and not in distress, women who are due to be induced will sometimes have to wait to be admitted if there are not enough beds available. Even if induction has been arranged in advance, if an unexpected influx of women who are already in labour and in immediate need arrive at the unit, they must be prioritised to ensure safe care.

Thank you for your comments. We would like to assure you that we take all feedback seriously and act upon them as part of our on-going commitment to improving patient experience.
