"i was admitted for day surgery ..."

About: Queen Victoria Hospital (East Grinstead)

(as the patient),

What I liked

i was admitted for day surgery to have 7 teeth removed under general anaesthetic. i walked in to the department with my mum and the waiting area was full of happy friendly people. i rang the bell on the wall to call for assistance as i was due for my op. a nurse came around straight away and asked me to sign a form then took me and my mum around to the tv lounge. within 10 minutes of sitting down my surgeon came around and calld me into a consulting room to show me what teeth needed to be extracted, and to also talk me through the operation. as we finished our conversation and i was sent back to the tv lounge the consultant said that i will be seen shortly by the anaethetist. well within in 3 minutes of sitting down the anaesthetist called me in to a changing room with a nurse. he spoke to me about the anaesthetic and the risks whislst the nurse done my ob's.

i asked when i was due into theatre and they said the team are waiting for me now, which meant straight away. so i changed into a gown and put my belongings in a bag for the nurse to put away safe, and then she walked me round to the cubicles and got me on a trolley with a blanket over me.

she explained to me that the wall to my left hand side was the theatre and that someone will be out to me in a minute. well the minute came and a charming man came out and confirmed who i was by the wrist band i had on and the number on my file then wheeled me into theatre.

as i went into theatre i saw the whole team who were very talkative and very reassuring. i remember as i dont like needles i was panicking about feeling the needle go into my hand, but the nurse who was holding the oxygen over my face was telling me to look at her and take deep breaths, which by that point the needle had been inserted into my hand.

the next minute i was in recovery and it was all over.

i remember waking up crying asking for my mum and they explained she was not allowed to come into the recovery area.

What could be improved

more heating in the recovery area as i was constantly clod.

Anything else?

best healthcare i have recieved since 2006 which yet again was from the quen victoria hospital.

well done to everyone there and keep up the fantastic work.
