"Kidney Transplant"

About: The Royal London Hospital

It's five weeks since my live donor transplant at The Royal London, courtesy of my wonderful brother, and I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the fantastic team that looked after me brilliantly throughout the whole process. I cannot believe how well I am feeling at this point, my recovery so far has been amazing. Of course I was somewhat anxious about the surgery, especially as my last operation at the hospital was thirty years ago and I didn't really know how much surgery and aftercare had come on since then.

I can happily say that I felt fully informed, well supported and incredibly well cared at all times. I'm not suggesting that there weren't times when I may have had to wait for someone to come and deal with my needs, but this was rare and not unreasonable under the circumstances that the nursing team have to operate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the renal team at The Royal London but it is important that the patient must take a proactive role in their recovery post operatively. My follow up care in clinic is excellent too. From the surgeons, doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and all of the support staff, they form a great team and worthy of high praise.
