"Waiting times will put people off"

About: Locala Community Partnerships CIC / Kirklees Sexual Health

(as the patient),

I attended to have a sexual health check up, I parked on the road outside the clinic with a one hour waiting time, I completed a form and waited just under an hour when I then moved my car into the car park with a minimum 2 hour charge of £2. 50. I returned to the service, there were limited seats, people were sat on the floor, in doorways and being asked to move, some even sat outside.

I was called by my first name to go to reception after about an hour and a half and asked what my previous address was, no privacy, all around could hear the conversation, I then stood and waited another half an hour or so to be seen.

I was eventually seen by the two nurses and they were so accommodating, respectful and helpful. I shared my opinions and thoughts on the environment that I had been in for the past 2 hours, it was crowded, undignified and there were no differences between sexual health clinics or family planning. The building could not accommodate the people needing to use the service and many were turned away asking they come another day until they had cleared the "back log! "

I feel sorry for the staff there as they were getting all sorts of verbal abuse from people being turned away, waiting with young children etc, car parking issues and excessively long waiting times. What makes it worse is that going to a clinic like this is degrading enough for some people and having the confidence to step through the door is bad enough, but with a service like this, I think it will and has put people off.

Dear Mary Rose

I would like to apologise that your recent visit to our Sexual Health clinic was far from adequate.

We are in the process of merging our contraception and sexual health services and this has led to longer waiting times within our clinics. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused, we do expect this to be a short term issue.

I am pleased you found the team helpful, it has been very difficult for them but their main focus it to try and help patients as much as possible.

We hope you will visit again and at that you will notice an improvement when we see you.

Best wishes
Sarah
