"Do not go here"

I was sent to Orchard unit, Cheadle Royal for having Anorexia, depression, anxiety and self harm. I went in March 2016. I was there 3 days before my parents came and discharged me against medical advice. The place was awful. My room was massive and dirty and had no curtains. There were bars on the windows. In my bathroom there was black mould growing on the walls, no shower curtain and the shower was freezing. Staff weren't friendly at all and when I was getting distressed and banging my head the staff just left me and didn't talk to me or try to help me. One day I was feeling very low and suicidal and I rang my mum and told her I wanted to kill myself and she tried to ring the ward to tell them she was worried. It took her nearly 2 hours to get through to anyone. I felt unsafe and frightened. Considering my main problem was anorexia, there was barely any support for me around meal times. I was expected just to get on with it and if I didn't they threatened me with the tube. There was no support with meal times. The only good things were you were allowed phones (without cameras or internet) all the time, the other patients were lovely and really kept me going through the few days I was there and when I asked to see a doctor I saw one within a few hours. I do not recommend cheadle to anyone and I can honestly say I still have sleepless nights thinking about how horrible it was. If you have any choice into which unit you go to, do not go to Cheadle. I have been in a few hospitals and Cheadle has been by far the worst.
