"This allowed her to stay calm and relaxed"

About: St John's Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My grandmother who has dementia had to attend the X ray department as she had a suspected stress fracture in her ankle. The receptionist was able to get her put to the top of the list so that she did not become more distressed. Once they took her in for her X-ray they got us jackets to wear so that we could stay with her. This made the whole process much easier for her and allowed her to stay calm and relaxed.

Dear Frances 17,

Thank you very much for sharing this lovely feedback. I was sorry to read that your grandmother may have had a stress fracture and needed an X-ray. Being able to be with your grandmother for this must have been reassuring for you both as this could have been a distressing time for her, particularly with her dementia. This really emphasises to me that it is the little things that can make all the difference.

I have passed your kind words onto the staff and l hope that you grandmother is recovering.

Thank you again.

Jeannette
