What could be improved
The registrar who saw me for a suspect lump in my breast only performed a basic breast examination, failed to find the lump, and did not recommend any further investigation of any type, stating that it was just ligament problems. I believe the team at Warrington are not pure breast specialists and for a hospital of this size, with the teaching status that it has, this seems inadequate to me.
Anything else?
When I finally went to the Linda Macartney centre in Liverpool (after going to a new GP and asking for a referral to an alternative hospital to warrington) they found the lump, performed extensive investigations and gave me a definite diagnosis that helped me to understand my condition. My general impression of warrington hospital is that patients are a nuisance to be dismissed with as little effort expended as possible. Politeness or respect for the patient is the reserve of only a very few of the staff with the majority being either brusk or openly rude.
At the Linda Macartney centre you have a mammogram as standard so that any deep seated lumps can be found and examined, needle aspirations and/or lump biopsies are then performed as necessary on the same day, and you are seen by a specialist reconstructive breast surgeon who oversees all women's treatment. I would recommend anybody with any breast problems to get a referral to the Linda Macartney centre in Liverpool. Why go somewhere average (to poor) when you can go somewhere excellent.
