"Horrible experience"

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital

My eight year old daughter has been suffering with abdominal pains and headaches for the last five weeks which are getting progressively worse. She has had various tests which have all been fine but it's been alarming that nobody can find out what is wrong with her. I took her to Chelsea and Westminster A&E today for the second time in the last few weeks after I took her out today and she was unable to walk home due to the pain she was in. I am desperately worried about her and after seeing a lovely nurse we had the unfortunate experience of seeing the consultant. The consultant listened as I explained how concerned I was that she has been ill for so long and nobody seems to know why. The consultant examined her although they did not bother to test the urine sample that she had been asked to provide. The consultant said that she seemed fine even though she had been unable to walk earlier that day. I asked if she could have an ultrasound scan as all the other tests had failed to show what is wrong with her. The consultant said that it wasn't necessary and when I began to cry and ask why they said I was being confrontational, which of course I wasn't, I just want to know what is wrong with her. The consultant said they would refer her to a clinic but couldn't tell me when that would be.. I told the consultant that I was really worried and needed their help and they kept saying "fantastic" and just looking at me. It was obvious that I had to leave, the consultant was making me feel very uncomfortable and as I picked up my bag they turned and left without another word. I'm left not knowing what to do, she's still unwell, nobody knows why and I have no idea when this clinic appointment will be. I have lodged a complaint with the hospital and will be contacting PALS after the weekend. I am totally bewildered by the consultant's behaviour.

Dear Ms Mullins,

We are very sorry to hear about your bad experience here at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

I can see that you have managed to contact the Complaints Team and currently your daughter’s case is being investigated.

Kind Regards,

PALS Team
