"Colposcopy CIN3 - Info for anyone having this done"

About: Bishop Auckland Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Last year (2009) I had a smear come back abnormal. (level CIN3)

I then went for a biopsy where they cut some cells out to test them more thoroughly than a smear. This was not a nice experience, you can feel a lot whilst they are doing it but it is over in about 10-15min.

A lot of bleeding afterwards and severe tummy ache for the rest of the day. Although the leaflets say you can go straight back to work (a man must have wrote them) I would definately advise a few days off work. After the results from the biopsy 25% of the area of my cervic had to be removed. I cant remember the name of the procedure but it was nowhere near as bad as the biospy.

I an now awaiting results of the 6mths after smear crossing fingers that it is normal.

Girls, try not to worry if this happens to you, it is very common and is all about ensuring there is less chance of cancer happening later in life.

I was also reassured by the doctor and nurse that this should not affect your chances of having children.
