"Dermatology unti in Aberdeen Royal (ARI)"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dermatology (Skin Conditions)

(as the patient),

I recently visited the dermatology unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for chronic excema which was the result of a referral from my GP and a private dermatologist.

The student doctor i saw was lovely and confirmed all my details that i had previously given to the private clinic, my symptoms and current treatments. However when she then invited through the consultant, I have to say i was incredibly insulted by what seemed to me to be the consultant's flippant attitude. Without asking anything about my case, the consultant talked about societal pressure for women to shave their legs and that was what was wrong with me - I have excema all over my body to the extent that i cannot sleep and am uncomfortably itchy most of the time, which severely affects my social and professional life.

This doctors attitude was unprofessional and insulting. The consultant then proceeded to discuss another patients treatment with the student for five minutes, eating into the time that i had for my appointment - which i had waited 4 months for.

I admit that my skin was uncharacteristically looking good that day, but without a proper discussion with me who were they to understand my real problem?

I have lost faith in the clinic now and am considering paying again for private care - when this service is meant to be paid for out of my taxes, should this level of care not be taken more seriously?
