"Hysterectomy keyhole"

About: Fitzwilliam Hospital

I had my surgery in march ..previously I had my tonsils removed and couldn't fault the care. In this instance my consultant and aesthetics and recovery care were excellent it was only when I got my aftercare I was very let down...A nurse true to remove my post op drain by tugging at it whilst it was still stitched in...and didn't stop when I asked and o had to shout to get them to stop...they ran out the room and left me in floods of tears..The pain was nothing I had experienced before...After that I was unable to get back in bed due to the side of my drain having been dislodged was causing me pain on weight bearing on that side...A different nurse came in and told me to hop on one leg to get into bed...The only assistance they offered was pushing a chair behind me while I struggled to get myself into bed...not hopping I add due to my surgery! My nurse who finally removed my drain some painful hours later did it with care and relatively painfree unlike the previous one...I then had to stay in another night....upon being discharged the next morning ..One nurse who was very sweet had difficulty explaining things and had to leave the room on several occasions to get clarification upon some of my questions...I left still feeling unclear and had to contact my consultant upon returning home to reassure me on certain points...my stay due to my surgery was an emotional one but feel like I had pain inflicted on me Un necessarily and since speaking with my nurse at my gp they assured me that removing a drain is basic stuff and was shocked at my treatment...I'm not happy at all .

Thank you for taking the time to send us a review of your most recent stay at the Fitzwilliam Hospital. I was sorry to hear of your experience, the incident you describe is clearly not the service we wish to offer our patients. I understand you have been in contact with our Quality Improvement Manager to discuss your concerns and she will be looking into the matter further for you.
