The care from the moment my mum and I arrived at the Ambulatory Care unit (ENT department) in the QE was excellent.
We were introduced to every member of staff that I would have contact with throughout my day; they told me their name, role in my care and what I should expect to happen next.
My surgeon introduced them self to me on the ward, and then met me again in the anaesthetic admission room, which really helped to put me at ease. Furthermore, the nurses were friendly, light-hearted and engaged me in small talk both on the way to the theatre and in the anaesthetic admission room, which also really helped.
Following surgery, the nurse that looked after me in Recovery was very kind and attempted to give me all the help I needed, with respect to water and pain relief etc.
In the ward following recovery the nurses always asked my permission before taking my Obs, which was good. They also continually checked my pain level on a pre determined 1-10 scale, and readily gave me pain relief when I requested it. They were respectful of the fact I was in too much pain to eat when I came out of Recovery and other patients were eating - they did their best with ice, ice cream and cold orange juice!
My mum was made to feel very welcome and the nurses accommodated all the other visitors very well. She was kept well informed of my progress, and my surgeon popped out to see her while I was in Recovery to let her know the outcome.
I was the last patient to be discharged on my ward, and I assume because of this I was put first on the list, which is very good planning and helped with my comfort throughout the day.
Very good care and high attention to detail from staff, thank you!
