"Breast assessment clinic"

About: The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

I attended the breast assessment clinic on 31 March 2016 after a routine mammogram.

Needless to say I was terrified.

I am also profoundly deaf, but, was advised I couldn't take my husband in with me for the procedures.

I needn't have worried, everyone was fantastic with me.

The radiologist was brilliant.

They went way and above their role as a radiologist, to put me at ease, and made sure I understood exactly what was happening every step of the way.

The GP who did the ultrasound, and the nurse with them, also tried their best to put me at ease, and to communicate with me.

I was one of the lucky ones, and was diagnosed with a cyst.

I was so impressed with their treatment of myself I've asked to return there for my routine 3 year mammogram.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review about your recent Breast Screening appointment on NHS Choices. Unfortunately, for safety reasons it is not possible for somebody to accompany you into the screening room. We hope that this was fully explained to you at the time and did not cause any problems.

We are very pleased that your experience within the department was as comfortable as possible. We are aware that diagnostic procedures can be very worrying and try to make our clients feel as at ease as possible and it is good to know that we achieved this in your experience. Your kind words have been passed on to the staff in the unit who will be most grateful.
