I recently had a hysterectomy via keyhole. This operation was initially meant to be done on 18 March but was postponed as I had a temperature.
I was sent home at approx 8.30 but by lunch time I was contacted with a new date 12 days later. Just before my operation my iron levels dropped so I was admitted to beams haw ward for a blood transfusion. My nurse was very kind and caring. During my operation on 30 March a complication occurred. The consultant phoned my partner personally to inform him of what happened and came to speak to us both while I was in recovery. Unfortunately I was too sleepy to take in what they were saying so they came back in the morning to explain everything. As a precaution they contacted the vascular surgeon and I was kept in recovery all night with one to one nursing. On the evening shift I was cared for by one particular nurse who was so friendly and caring putting my mind at ease and again in the morning until I was transferred to the ward. I had another wonderful nurse overnight. In the morning I was visited by the consultant and their registrar and quite a few members of the day unit popped in to see if I was ok. I was transferred to beams haw ward where I was kept in for a few days given a blood transfusion and antibiotics.
The standard of care given at this hospital has been exceptional. All staff I met from doctors to cleaners were amazing delivery very high standards of care. This includes the pre op assessment, day surgery unit and bra share ward. I would highly recommend this hospital and would say it is the nhs at its best.
