"Communication in the wheelchair ..."

About: Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre

(as the patient),

What could be improved

Communication in the wheelchair service as I was not put onto their books without persistant contact from me.

Anything else?

The waiting lists for wheelchairs are unacceptable and voucher system leaves little to be desired with on average a 4 month wait to be seen for a wheelchair voucher asessment then a further 3 months potentially to process one.

We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your experience within the Wheelchair Service. Unfortunately, you don’t elaborate on the communication issues which caused you concern, and therefore it is difficult for us to assess and respond directly to you via this medium. If you wish to discuss this issue further please call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01865 738126 or email pals@noc.nhs.uk who will be happy to help.

Regarding your comments about the waiting list - patients are seen in turn according to the date of referral and clinical priority. As you correctly point out, the current waiting time for assessment is approximately four months. We are currently undertaking a waiting list initiative to reduce the wait to access the wheelchair clinic. This includes the provision of additional clinics throughout January, February and March. However, we would like to reassure you that once you are seen in clinic there is no additional waiting time regarding vouchers.

If you would like to discuss this, or any other issue regarding our services please do not hesitate to contact the PALS office.

Finally, we would like to thank you for raising your concerns with us – all feedback is appreciated.
