"Another long wait"

About: Withington Hospital

This is my 3rd appointment at Withington Hospital for my 4 year old son who according to every gp, nurse, speech therapist and A and E doctors except for the so called specialist ENTcconsultant is having problems with his adenoids which has resulted in poor speech, heavy breathing during the day, struggling to breath at night, sweats in his sleep leaving his bed sheets wets, mouth always open, dry lips, contant colds and recurring ear infections.

On my sons first visit the consultant stated my son had no problems with his adenoids but after disagreeing with them, referred him to stay in a sleep clinic over night, this was over 5 months ago and have still not received a letter. Two months ago my son was due to go and see the consultant again an hour before his appointment I get a phone call that they have had to cancel his appointments as there was not enough doctors as some were off sick. Then today 1st April 2016 I get to the hospital sit there waiting over an hour for his appointment with no explanation or apologies for the doctors being late until I approached a nurse and asked her how long the wait would be. I was not willing to wait any longer or return back to this hospital so enquired about referring my son to Central Manchester Children's Hospital which I will now be doing. You can not expect kids to sit in a non child friendly room with no books etc for over an hour with out them starting to get agitated. I am fearful of whats happening to our NHS and will now be looking into private health insurance, which is not fair on people that cannot afford to do this.
