"A and e and IAT"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Visited A and E. I was in absolute agony and anyone could see that...despite this, receptionist spent 15 minutes chatting to another patient about irrelevant things. When I eventually got seen, first part of care was ok...they took bloods rapidly but did nothing for my pain. I was then shoved on to IAT. I was screaming in agony and was not given any pain relief for two hours, this was only two paracetamol, which I honestly felt like I couldn't take orally, however, the nurse was very uncaring and told me to just "get on with it". 30 mins later still in pain, they gave me oromorph which settled pain down for a while. Was then told nothing wrong with bloods, had ultrasound, told nothing wrong with that...Was made to feel as though I was making pain up. 1 hour later, pain becomes excruciating, nurse offers me ibuprofen! I was begging for something stronger, after another hour of me screaming out, my mum couldn't take it anymore and she had to go looking for the doctor to help me because the nurses were just sat behind the desk and just shrugged their shoulders when she asked for help. Doctor told them to give gas and air...massive and instant relief. I had Ct scan and had air and fluid in abdomen. I was then rushed to theatre where it was discovered I had perforated stomach ulcer.
