Hospital staff are fanastic thats not the problem .

Having people smoking outside right by the revolving doors and automatic doors , they may aswell come in the hospital and light up as it just gets blown straight into the hospital ! Also which is even worse i had an appointment at the paediatrics outpatients which is quite warm so there was a window open and surprise surprise you can smell the smoke as the window is situated directly above the paediatric outpatients. Im surprised smoking is allowed directly outside a hospital . Wouldnt it make sense to have a smoking area kept well away from the main entrance ! Its not fair on none smokers and certainly not children / babies .

Thank you for your comments regarding smoking directly outside the Treatment Centre at Good Hope Hospital.

There are signs on the wall, and also on a sandwich board displaying no smoking signs that are clearly visible directly outside the Treatment Centre, and these also direct smokers to the allocated smoking shelters which are located around the hospital. There is a shelter adjacent to the Accident and Emergency Department, there is another opposite Fothergill Building, and another adjacent to the Richard Salt Building. Our Security Team do make regular patrols around the hospital grounds and wherever possible do direct patients and visitors to use the appropriate allocated areas. It is trust policy for any staff that smoke to only use the shelters, and if found smoking anywhere other than the shelters, may be subject to disciplinary procedures. It is an ongoing difficulty to fully enforce the smoking restrictions with visitors and patients unfortunately, although the security staff do their best.

It is most appreciated that this smoking in unauthorised areas is unfair on non-smokers, and most particularly on children and babies. I will forward your comments to our Security Management Team and request that extra patrols are made and anyone found breaching these rules are challenged more robustly.

I hope this is acceptable and once again thank you for taking the time to post your views, patient and visitor feedback is extremely important to us.
