"Alienating patients"

About: Beckenham Beacon Urgent Care Centre

I attended the Beckenham Beacon for chest X-rays following episodes of a very fast and abnormal heart beat. The person taking the X-rays took it upon them self to start questioning me about my lifestyle and to then give me totally unwanted and unsolicited lifestyle advise. Every time I have been to a NHS hospital or clinic at least half the staff is obese. Is it normal for NHS staff to tell point out to their colleagues that they are obese and inform them of the fact that they should loose weight each time they interact with one of their obese colleagues? I suspect not. It is not a socially acceptable way for a person to behave who wishes to establishes a relationship of mutual trust and respect. Humiliating and degrading a person by openly showing them contempt and disapproval, is to say the least a bully tactic to coerce the other person into behaving or acting in a way you approve of.

Given this environment of bullying and coercion in the NHS I do not want to engage with people who have absolutely no respect for the fact that I am an adult and I am entitled to live my life as I choose. I do not need or want the approval of any member of NHS staff for how I choose to live my life. I do not engage with the NHS for the sake of social approval or assurance. I only engage for the purposes of diagnosis and treatment. However, given that I find the fact that NHS staff operate on the assumption that their personal views and opinions, their approval or disapproval, have somehow power or influence over me is clearly testimony of an exaggerated sense of self-importance on their side and to say the least offensive. I was suppose to go for blood test as well, but given the fact that I am not prepared to put myself in an environment where other people think they are entitled to humiliate and degrade me, I will not go for these test. I will not pursue any further medical investigations into the underlying cause for these abnormal heart beat any further. I simply do not want to engage with the NHS given this tendency to treat patients with total disrespect and contempt. Rather than helping people life healthier lives, you obsession with lifestyle only serves to discourage people from seeking medical treatment when they need to. Your obsession with lifestyle put lives at risk rather than save it. At the same time people do not live for the purpose of being healthy, they are healthy for the purpose of enjoying life. Quality of life and enjoyment of life is something people experience in a very real level on a daily basis, Health on the other hand is a very abstract concept. Absence of disability and discomfort is usually enough to enable people to enjoy their lives. However there are many people who by all clinical measures are perfectly healthy but who are unable to enjoy there lives due to NHS induced anxiety and worry about dying and disease.
