"Well Now Classes at Princess street medical practice"

About: NHS Highland (Health)

(as the patient),

I was referred by my GP to attend these classes locally as I am overweight instead of a dietitian. I was unhappy as I had not requested this treatment but decided to go anyway to ensure I covered all avenues in the treatment of my condition. I attended and I was the youngest in my group of people with varying health issues. We supported each other whilst learning about and creating more positive behaviours toward food. We also shared our experiences and because everything was confidential and we were all going through similar experiences we created a great bond guided by our excellent tutors. We were given tools to cope and the manner in which we were taught removed any previous dieting guilt and pressure. It was quite a revelation. It was in the end exactly what I had been needing but had not quite realised it yet myself.

Dear Fern

Thanks for your feed-back. I am glad that you have found a positive way forward and that you benefited from peer support. I agree its all about being given the tools to cope. I am sure we can learn from this approach for other things. I have shared your comments with the team.
