"My mum recently went in for an ..."

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mum recently went in for an operation. The operation itself went well and was preformed to a high standard. The two times I went to visit her in hospital the staff were attentive polite and available.

What could be improved

The morning of the operation they said they would call my mum to make sure everything was on schedule. There was no call and my father took her in. On arriving, the staff made excuses saying they had tried to call. After this my mum was left sitting around for 2 hours, before being seen.

After she was operated on the follow up regarding her care was not up to standard. My little sister came to see her on several times to make sure the care she was recieving was of a good standard. Apart from the regular meals and refreshments, on 3 occaisions she had to wait with my mother for 4 hours for a doctor to see her. 2 of the days she was in hospital a doctor never showed at all even though they said they would. Due to this my mother had to spend and additional 3 days in hospital due to having low calcium levels, her medication was not regularly scheduled, which also added to the amount of time she spent in Queens.

Anything else?

In addition to all this my little sister who had taken time off from her studies was asked to leave the hospital after sitting on our mother bedside waiting for a doctor. The whole experience has left my fatehr rather angry as he was assured she would be well looked after. The rest of the family were concerned due to the fact we all work and so the more time she spent in hospital made the whole situation feel like it was much worse than it was, increasing stress levels in both the family and my mother who was the patient.
