I have for a long time been struggling to get pregnant. over and over again people told me to keep trying and I did. But I was struggling with painful period and irregular bleeding. I went to my g. p and they advised having a scan. But I couldn't get a scan at my local hospital as I was working (I work for the nhs).
I decided to pay myself for my own scans - and this showed I had fluid or blood in my fallopian tubes.
At this point I went back to the g. p who then referred me to the community gynaecologist. At this appointment I had to have another scan. but this appointment didn't go well. I have to wait 15 mins. I had all my history typed out for the doctor and I had all my previous information. However the doctor didn't want to listen to me. They read the info from the G. P which was slightly incorrect and told me to lie down to have the scan. I wasn't able to fully discuss my story with them.
At the end of the scan the doctor said - well we need to look inside - you could have multiple diagnoses.
I thought - of course I could have multiple diagnoses, because all you have done is scanned me and not listened to me and my problems.
They scheduled me for surgery but I didn't feel comfortable - the doctor also told me he wouldn't be the one doing the operation 'laparoscopy' so it could of been anyone on the day who didn't know me.
I wasn't happy with this care and asked my g. p to refer me to my local hospital.
Here the doctor listened to me did another scan and has also scheduled me for surgery - same outcome but I feel confident in his surgical skills as I feel he knows me better.
the community service was provided as part of west hertfordshire community gynaecology service.
The hospital that I feel I have had better care at was st marys hospital london.
But I think so much saving could of been made here for the nhs.
I paid for my scans- which gave me a diagnosis - but I had to have 2 more scans for the consultant to be happy. I think doctors need to learn to trust there colleagues more in their practice.
I always needed the laparoscopy - I would of been happy with a skype consultation with a consultant and then to be scheduled for the procedure. saving time and resources. - technically this could of been done in the community service - but it was the care and attention lacking from the doctor and nurse here.
I am yet to have the surgery and waited now since november to have it, the scheduled date was the june - but has been rescheduled for a month later. Again this isn't great when I have a progressive condition that is reducing my fertility. My initial list to my g. p was august last year. so it will be a year I have been awaiting for an outcome to treatment.
